Inviting Team Members and Managing Roles

Updated September 5, 2026

ChattyPie lets you collaborate with your team by inviting members and assigning roles. This article covers how to invite people, what each role can do, and how to manage permissions.

Roles Overview

ChattyPie has two built-in roles:

Role What They Can Do
Owner Everything — billing, workspace settings, invite/remove members, conversations, templates, knowledge base
Moderator Conversations, templates, knowledge base, personal profile. Cannot access billing or workspace settings.

Enterprise plans support custom roles with granular permissions. Contact us for details.

Inviting Members

  1. Go to Settings > Moderators
  2. Click Invite Member
  3. Enter the person's email address
  4. Select their role (Owner or Moderator)
  5. Click Send Invite

The invitee receives an email with a link to create their account and join the workspace. Invitations expire after 7 days — you can resend from the Moderators page.

Managing Existing Members

From Settings > Moderators you can:

  • Change role — Click the role badge next to a member's name to switch between Owner and Moderator
  • Remove member — Click the ✕ button to revoke access. The member loses access immediately but their past messages and activity remain in the system.

Permissions in Detail

Moderator Permissions

Moderators can:

  • View, reply to, and resolve conversations assigned to them (or unassigned)
  • Create and edit templates
  • Create and edit knowledge base articles
  • Update their own profile (name, avatar, notification preferences)

Moderators cannot:

  • Access Settings > General, Billing, or Installation
  • Invite or remove other team members
  • Delete the workspace

Owner Permissions

Owners have full access to everything in the workspace, including billing, API tokens, widget configuration, and member management. There must always be at least one owner in a workspace.

Best Practices

  • Keep the number of owners small (1–2 per workspace) for security
  • Use moderator roles for front-line support agents
  • Review the team list periodically and remove inactive members
  • When an employee leaves, remove their access immediately to maintain security
